Meet Kathy....
My passion for photography expanded in the early 1990’s from photographing my children to an opportunity to capture musicians working at their craft. An introduction to my now husband, who is a landscape photographer, meant we were regularly off hiking, backpacking and photographing. Eventually, however, my real photography passion exploded when I began to photograph tiny babies to six-year-olds. I have photographed thousands from tiny newborns to five-generation family portraits to corporate events. I'm very selective about weddings -- they must be outdoors. My in-home studio is in Huntington Beach; however, location shoots are also a big part of what I do. I love working at something that makes me happy and in turn, I am free to let my creative spirit soar and I am having a blast.
As a pregnancy, maternity, prenatal photographer I encourage moms to do what feels right for them; either wrapped in a light drape or an artfully designed nude pose, I work to capture the glow and beauty of pregnancy. With requests from moms I've photographed, most really do not like to have their private pregnancy portraits posted for the world to see, therefore, I respect their request and no longer showcase such a gallery on this site.
Newborn and baby photography has evolved over the past several years to an artful approach, still nothing beats a traditional baby on belly and the bum in the air. I do both to ensure your baby doesn't get lost in all the props.
For children and family portraits time can slip away quickly, so I feel strongly about these sittings in that whether posed, or fun and candid moments, those interactions between parents, between siblings are timeless and those are the images to hold tight for generations.
Creating a composite of your session is something I offer each family. The composite can be simple or complex...samples in the family portfolio section coming soon.
More often now, clients ask about digital copies of their portraits. Be certain that is what you really want, and you have the software for post processing. Ask if you are not certain. Unfortunately, digital is a trend where families purchase the digital and never make prints. Your prints are historical, don't leave them on the computer. Technology changes and who is to say what opens today will in a few years. Also, prints made on your home printer are seldom of archival quality. Something to think about!
